At SweisKloss we love dogs and know our clients do as well. Dogs are undoubtedly considered part of the family; I often refer to my dog as my third baby, since she came after my two children. Driving around LA, one could easily spot dogs in strollers, backpacks, and custom bike baskets.
With this love of our pets in mind, we have designed many homes to be more suitable for our furry best friends. From simple finishes to dog playpens with pretty wallpaper and fancy gates to backyard running for prime ball chasing, which we talked about in our blogpost “Barkitecture”: https://www.sweiskloss.com/blog/barkitecture. We think through where to store their goodies, hang leashes, and conveniently store their food.
Increasingly, clients have been asking us about creating a place to bathe their dog. Most people either use a groomer or put their pet in a bath/shower or big utility sink. Washing at home can be messy, awkward, and time-consuming especially if your pet looks like she just rolled around in the La Brea Tar Pits.
To help prevent sore backs from bending over, waterlogged bathrooms and dog shampoo in the eyes, these days we have been planning doggie washing stations in laundry rooms or mudrooms for bathing and grooming.
When planning your home renovation, or the remodel of your mudroom or laundry room, consider adding a doggie washing station. Washing stations include showerheads with long flexible handheld arms, tiled walls or glass partitions, niches for shampoos and treat canisters, towel rack, outlets for blow-dryers, and all at just the right height to make bath time safer for the dog, easier on the human’s back, and less messy for everyone.
This pet-friendly feature has become increasingly popular and adds value to any home. Even for those who don’t have dogs, these washing areas can be used to rinse off sandy flip flops, muddy boots, or grimy kids. But most of all, we like that a doggie washing station is a win-win of happy homeowner and pampered pooch.
