Green Spring Cleaning

If you are jumping on the tidying-up movement made popular by Marie Kondo’s “Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up,” and motivated by the season to do some “spring cleaning,” we thought we’d share some of our favorite recipes for green cleaning. These solutions are easy to make, easier on the skin and the airways than commercial cleaners, and they contain no dyes that can discolor your furniture and fixtures. If you don’t love the odor of any of these ingredients, you don’t have to bear it long because the odor dissipates quickly. And all grocery and drugstores sell these ingredients, and the empty spray bottles!

Glass Cleaner
1 part white vinegar
1 part rubbing alcohol
Spray on glass surface and wipe off with a paper towel, microfiber cloth or newspaper (it works!)

All Purpose Cleanser
Add 3 cups water to
1 Tablespoon castile soap
Swish to dissolve (about 20 seconds)
Add 1 cup white vinegar

Floor Cleaner
In a bucket
Add 1 Tablespoon castile soap to
1 gallon hot water
Swish to dissolve (about 20 seconds)
Add ¼ cup white vinegar

There are many homemade “green” cleanser recipes online, so if any of these don’t suit you, I encourage you to try others. Also, check your owner’s manual or search online to make sure the surface material you are cleaning can tolerate cleanser of any kind.

Happy cleaning and Happy spring!!
