Taylor Horton, Designer + Assistant Project Manager, recently hit his year mark with SweisKloss. When I asked him how it has been being a part of the SK team, he told me he really appreciates the detail of work that goes into each project. There’s an indelible satisfaction in seeing these elements come to life through the construction process. “To me, this is the beauty of the profession,” he added. As much as his accomplished design capabilities are valued, we are most grateful for his warm, affable personality, which mixes well with our close-knit team.
As with most designers, Taylor grew up drawing and painting. He also had a keen interest in watching his father professionally draft drawings for the family woodworking business, which Taylor was involved with before heading off to college. He developed his design skills and earned his BA in Architecture at Auburn University in conjunction with the Rural Studio, an award-winning design-build program.
It was in the Architecture program at Auburn that Taylor met his wife, Cecelia (or Ceci), and discovered they both had a connection to kinesthetic learning—also known as tactile learning—and a passion for furniture design and fine art. While Ceci studied furniture design at RISD (Rhode Island School of Design), Taylor took on positions in construction management and architectural design.
Eventually Taylor and Ceci’s love of furniture design and sculpture morphed into a business they named Prince and Fox Studio, a brand that introduces a link between organic concepts and functional fine art. But they knew that if they wanted to grow their business, they needed to move to a larger epicenter of culture like Los Angeles. “LA provides much inspiration and opportunity to succeed,” says Taylor. “The local art scene is unique and vibrant, and people care about creativity and want to support it.”
When Taylor isn’t designing at SweisKloss, he is creating art pieces alongside Ceci, who runs Prince and Fox Studio full-time. Taylor also takes time to sing, play guitar and piano, and do outdoor activities.
