5 Tile Designs that Inspire

The right tile selection, whether subtle or bold, can either make or break the flow of a space. But it’s incredibly fun as a designer to search for the perfect size, shape, pattern, texture and color to see the vision through. Thankfully, we have been seeing quite a few inspiring tile designs (some that will be incorporated into our current projects). We’d like to share our favorites with you.
Geometric: There is a surge of geometric patterns happening with tile. So when our client wanted something whimsical yet timeless for the tiled floor in their kids’ bath, we knew a fun geometric design—reminiscent of the artist M.C. Esher—would be a great solution.

Color: White tile will always be classic, but we are seeing colors that could also stand the test of time like grey-blues and softer greens. Of course, a bold color is not out of the question if you want to make a statement. The blue tile by Heath Ceramics around this fireplace helps to create a beautiful focal point in the space.

Handmade: The organic quality of handmade tiles is subtle and beautiful. No tile piece is exactly the same, which creates a unique design that can go either modern or traditional. We love the look of it here in this kitchen.

3-D Texture: These tiles are shaped to give a slight 3-D effect. We designed a backsplash for a client’s master bath using a variation of these triangular tiles by Pental Surfaces to add texture and complement the clean lines of the rest of the space.

Hand Painted: These hand painted tiles by Arto Brick inspired us to use them in our Santa Monica Spanish Revival project. They will add warmth, texture, and a historical charm.
